Eric and Sandra Read - Philippines

The churches in The Philippines are often very strong in evangelism, but few try to make a difference in their community. There is a need for churches to be an influence for the positive transformation of their communities, fulfilling God's calling for them to be light and salt.

Our role is twofold. To support our work we are developing an organic farm. We live in a rural community and seek to live out the gospel in all areas of our life. We are building relationships with churches and starting some teaching in a local seminary.

Call

To help churches love and serve their communities holistically

Role

To train and inspire churches and church leaders in holistic mission

He spent six years with a Christian peacemaking charity, first in The Philippines and then in Uganda. Sandra is a nurse and spent many years doing medical relief with Christian agencies in Southeast Asia and Africa, until we got married and she joined Eric in Uganda. We started our married life in a mud hut.

In 2006 we joined Church Mission Society and together with our children Peter and Atiyyah we spent four years in DR Congo, training local churches and working with them in holisitic mission, before moving to The Philippines

CMS has been around a long time, yet keeps its vision and goals fresh and relevant. It is always looking for and trying out new ways of doing mission, responding to new challenges and willing to take risks and this inspires and emboldens us. CMS is always supportive and encouraging to us through thick and thin.
